The Inner Quixote
Documentary style portrait in dramatic light

Bio

I am an Editorial Military and Documentary Photographer, born in Germany and raised in Colombia.

I gravitate toward high-stakes spaces and the quiet human dignity that lives inside them. I do not construct narratives. I work from within lived experience and wait for vulnerability and strength to appear in the same frame.

For over a decade I have been embedded with the Colombian Armed Forces as the only civilian photographer granted sustained access. I work as the 13th man: part of the count, never on the roster, portraying what exists between the mission and the person carrying it out.

That same patience shapes my work beyond the military. In 2015 I turned the staircases of the San Antonio Metro Station in MedellĂn into large-scale photographic installations, a three-year project celebrating the cultural identity of Antioquia. In portraiture I follow the same instinct, looking for character, not perfection.

Piles of National Geographic magazines and the cinematic grit of storytellers like Werner Herzog gave me a restless, poetic curiosity. I call it my inner Quixote: the stubborn impulse that keeps pushing me toward the next story. My guiding principle is simple. Always honor what you have in front of the lens.

Some of my work is held in private collections, including Citi Private Bank, and forms part of National Geographic's photo stock. It has received international recognition, including Gold in Editorial at the Tokyo International Foto Awards 2023 and Editorial Photographer of the Year at the ND Awards 2023.

Philosophy

The Inner Quixote

My work is guided by what I call the inner Quixote - a restless curiosity that pushes me toward places where stories are unfolding in real time. Like Cervantes' character, the impulse is both idealistic and stubborn: a belief that human dignity is worth documenting, even in environments shaped by conflict, uncertainty, or transformation.

The inner Quixote is not about chasing illusions. It is about refusing indifference. It means entering the world with empathy, courage, and a willingness to witness. Every project begins with that impulse - to look closer, to stay longer, and to elevate the truth of the moment.
